The Bugyal Kanatal - Facts / What to expect and what's not
The Bugyal is a secluded resort, nestled in the lower Himalaya range, surrounded by the forest, 1 km off the main highway and ideal for guests looking for peaceful place to enjoy nature, bird watching, hiking. If you are looking for a place with pure vegetarian food cooked with organic ingredients, this is the place for you.
We live and promote the philosophy of ‘smart minimalism in luxurious set-up’ and we are an ‘Absolute No’ if you are seeking Conventional Hospitality of a Star Rated Resort amidst bustling hill station, closer to Mall Road.
Sustainability
Sustainability does not merely mean using the natural resources, but it is a whole eco-system involving nature, flora-fauna and the local population. The Himalyas are beautiful but life in here is equally tough. Clean drinking water, electricity and food are the biggest luxuries. We have designed the resort to make it self-sustainable and the same concept has been incorporated in all other services that we provide.
Therefore, we follow certain guidelines and expect our guests to understand these and cooperate with us.
- We mostly use spring water or rain harvested water. Drinking water is treated for bacteria and impurities.
- We discourage use of packaged water bottles, as there is no facility to dispose them off. If you still insist, we would request the guest to take empty bottles back.
- Washing clothes is a major source of water wastage and chemical pollution. We can’t avoid it but we can minimize it. Therefore, we change linen every 4th day of stay/check-out, whichever is earlier.
- We expect our guests to help us in preserving natural resources. Please do not litter. Dispose your wastes off properly.
- We use fresh, seasonal vegetables cultivated locally from our in-house kitchen garden as well as sourced from the neighbourhood. We would love our guests to pluck veggies/fruits themselves and get it cooked as per their tastes.
- We are situated inside orchards and we serve fresh seasonal fruits, directly plucked from our fruit trees. Jams/Juices served are made in-house or sourced from local Khadi Gramudhyog Kendras.
- We are surrounded by the woods, which are home to various wild animals. Therefore, guests are requested not to venture out of the property at night alone.
Also expect lots of bugs including bees around. We don’t use chemical sprays to kill them as they are a crucial part of the ecosystem. We only use organic methods to keep them away. So expect a few bugs here and there and even inside rooms.
So, if you encounter spider, frogs, Millipedes (Kankhajura), Grasshoppers, wild Lizards etc, please don’t panic. Let us know. We would escort the tiny guest to their natural home.
On the contrary, if you are lucky enough, then Barasingha, Barking Deers, Jackals, Wolves, innumerable varieties of Birds, Giant Moths, bears and Leopards may be visible to you. So keep your cameras ready!
PLEASE REMEMBER: WE HAVE COME IN THEIR HOMES, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND.
- We have employed locals and trained them in hospitality. They won’t be able to match polished staff working in city hotels, but we serve ‘Dil Se’ and try our best to make our guests happy.
- If any guest has any special need, the information must be provided in advance, within a minimum of 24 hours so that we can make suitable arrangements. The closest market is 20 kilometers away, so we need time to get things.
Room Service
We have a large restaurant with lounge style seating and we expect our guests to come and relish their food in it. We don’t serve food items in rooms except during extreme weather or to elderly guests. If one still insisits, room service is provided with additional service charges.
Parking
Since our property is 1 km away from the main road, normal cars cannot come to the property. There is parking along the road at various points. Also, there is paid parking opposite to Club Mahindra, approx. 2 kilometers away. We provide complementary pick-up service in our 4×4 vehicle from the closest parking point.
Most of the parking points are about 700 meters from the resort. The 700 meters walk to The Bugyal Kanatal is rated as an easy descending walk on a cemented-stony trail by most travelers, and can be completed in 10-15 minutes.
Disclaimer
We are operating with limited resources and everything comes with lots of efforts. We try our best to serve our guests in the best possible manner but there are always limitations on the use of resources.
Unlimited water is not available. The guests are expected to use it judiciously.
We have separate power back-ups for light and power equipment (Geysers). Light points are on inverter and run in normal manner during power failures. However, DG is run for Geysers between 8 -10AM only.
During winters, we adopt a different heating approach. Since we are Glamping Resort made with fabric, electrical space heaters are not effective at all. Also, for safety reasons, we strictly avoid any fire based solution. Rather, we provide more effective and conventional heating solutions like heating blankets and hot water bottles.
We coexist with nature and these areas are prone to wild mammals, insects and snakes so one needs to be careful and one is responsible for one’s own safety.
Others
- Bonfire setup is done at extra cost, untill unless part of package.
- Breakfast is served between 08:30hrs to 10:00hrs
